I am going to start a series to share the various creatures that appear in our yard. Some stay, some are regulars, and some might never be seen more than once.
While putting the kettle on for tea, I noticed what might be a starling in our backyard, and ran for the camera.

I did a quick walk about today. We only have one tiny patch of snow left in the front yard. Fat drops of rain were falling just infrequently enough that I snuck in about 20 minutes of fallen twig pickup and general observation.
Since it seems like the weather really isn’t going to give up the below freezing nights consistently anytime soon, I thought maybe it was time to give up fantasies of putting some things in the ground, and pulled out ye olde bag of last year’s leftover potting soil. Originally, I thought if I managed a post a month, that’d be great. Then I thought, once a week might be really nice. Once I started posting, then I realized how much else I wasn’t getting done. So I thought maybe instead of just let it happen, I should stop and think about it a bit.
I’m still not really sure what will work best. I’m thinking for the short term goal at this point, taking weekends off might be wise.
Time will tell.

Our house came with a doghouse, but we have no dog.
We both like them, but cats have been better for us with our multiple moves over the years. Now, with funds tight, it wouldn’t be nice to bring in any animal that would only add to our expenses.
Last year I planned to somehow convert said doghouse, but never made up my mind as to what.
We still have no dog, but the doghouse remains.
Today was the only day this week that was forecast to not have precipitation, so we were determined to try to spend at least an hour outside. I know that seems a too small goal, but we have a lot going on besides just the gardens. Continue reading “Working as weather allows…”
