Growing in Gardner

Maybe it will be friends with me?

Category: Seeds

I may still have some older posts to back tag for this, but I am now trying to categorize any post that mentions seeds as exactly that.

A comic about revolutionary gardening.

Garden Growth–May 29, 2020

Mostly been spring cleaning in the garden the last few days and there is still so much to do.  At least today I got some seeds in the ground!  I will start soaking more tonight.

I watered. It will definitely rain tonight.
Burdock free strawberries and hopefully soon Grandpa Ott Morning Glories as well.

Why Latin names matter #2 – Lobelia

Posted on May 18, 2020 by Lily

If you’re trying to plant natives, Latin names matter.  I finally got around to finishing the first of this series I had started writing earlier this year, but I did back date it because the bulk of it was written by February–I just wanted to make sure of all references. Frantic defenses against frost…

Posted on September 19, 2019 by Lily

We knew the expected frost date was bearing down on us, but some things just aren’t done growing yet that we want to harvest.  As I write this, it’s 43°F, and it’s expected to drop down to 36° in the wee hours before dawn.  Continue reading “Frantic defenses against frost…” →

Garden Growth–4th July, 2019

Somehow my brain remembered to pull up the month o’ posts from last year, and WOW…suddenly I realized exactly how far behind I am in finishing just about any type of post lately, compared to last.  Sadly, not just this month.  I’ll keep trying to do better.  Continue reading “Garden Growth–4th July, 2019” →

Garden Growth–15th April, 2019

Got caught in today’s spring shower, which was anything but light though it was warm (at first anyway)!  My sweatshirt hanging on a chair by the dining room radiator still isn’t dry, but then again the heat has barely needed to come on today.  Another 60°F day. Site Change: Added the new seeds to “What I’m planting soon” list

I know I said I wouldn’t do this until I finished my planting calendar, but I realized it wouldn’t take long.  I think I’m still missing a few flowers from seeds I gathered last year, but I’ll fix that after I finish my planting calendar. Continue reading “Site Change: Added the new seeds to “What I’m planting soon” list” →

Unfinished posts and finished plantings

Posted on April 12, 2019 by Lily

The lack of consistent postings of late is not a sign that we’ve not been putting in at least some time each day towards our garden, it’s that I’ve not managed to eck out the time to finish a handful of posts about what’s been done in that time. Continue reading “Unfinished posts and finished plantings” →

Fly By Notes, 28 March 2019

Time to write just about anything in a focused manner lately has been hard to come by, so here’s a sort of organized bullet list both for me and anyone that is curious about what I’ve been up to in the last few days.
